Electrical activity, membrane behavior, and signaling as foundations for understanding living systems.
IHBI's executive education draws on published research in bioelectricity, biological signaling, magnetobiology, and physiological rhythms—connecting scientific questions with thoughtful professional practice.
Explore selected publications ↓Our Chronological Research Index brings together historical milestones, experimental investigations, and theoretical perspectives across human biophysics. It informs the questions explored in IHBI's teaching and directs participants toward original sources.
From the history of bioelectricity to contemporary investigations of calcium signaling and electromagnetic interactions, we ask how physical processes contribute to biological organization.
We examine study design, exposure parameters, biological models, reproducibility, and clinical relevance. A laboratory finding, a proposed mechanism, and a patient outcome answer different questions.
Our reference collection includes established physiology, developing experimental findings, and exploratory theories. Inclusion supports academic discussion; it does not imply that every theory or clinical application is established.
Electrical activity, membrane behavior, and signaling as foundations for understanding living systems.
Ion cyclotron resonance models and experiments investigating biological responses to defined magnetic-field conditions.
Molecular signaling and the research questions connecting calcium-dependent processes with field interactions.
Biological timing, sleep, and the relationship between physiological rhythms and environmental cues.
Experimental approaches to magnetic-field perception and biological responses to the physical environment.
Exploratory perspectives on biological organization, examined with explicit attention to assumptions and testable predictions.
These selected references connect directly to themes in our curriculum. Links lead to the original publisher or the National Library of Medicine's publication records.
Liboff, A. R. Journal of Biological Physics, 13, 99–102.
Introduces a model proposing ion cyclotron resonance as a mechanism of interaction between weak magnetic fields and cells. A foundational hypothesis for the field, rather than a clinical efficacy trial.

Reports changes in calmodulin-dependent enzyme activity under specified laboratory conditions. Relevant to molecular mechanisms; it does not establish a patient treatment outcome.
Read the publication record ↗Ledda, M., et al. PLOS ONE, 8, e61535. DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0061535.
Investigates calcium-ICR exposure in a laboratory cell model. It offers a preclinical line of inquiry into differentiation; findings in cultured cells do not by themselves establish clinical benefit.

Reports EEG alpha-band responses to controlled rotations of Earth-strength magnetic fields. This investigates human magnetoreception, rather than ICR treatment efficacy.

Includes IHBI faculty member Dr. Alberto Garoli as a coauthor. The publication is identified as a pilot study and is presented as preliminary research, not definitive evidence of efficacy.
